A family is a group of people who are related to each other. Today we will learn the basic family words that you need to know. These words help us talk about the people in our family.
The most important people in a family are parents and children. Parents are father and mother. We can also say dad and mom. Children are son and daughter. A son is a male child, and a daughter is a female child.
Brothers and sisters are called siblings. They are children who have the same parents. A brother is a male sibling, and a sister is a female sibling. You can have older siblings who were born before you, or younger siblings who were born after you.
Grandparents are very special family members. Your grandfather, or grandpa, and your grandmother, or grandma, are your parents' parents. This means they are one generation older than your parents. You are their grandchild, and they love you very much!
