The second action or event may cause the action in progress to end. **Chart/Diagram Description:** Two timeline diagrams. Both are horizontal lines with arrows pointing to the right, indicating progression over time. There are labels below the line indicating points in time. Sections of the timeline are marked with horizontal bars (solid or dashed) representing durations of actions. **Timeline a:** - The timeline shows a point labeled "9:00" and another labeled "now". - Above the timeline, a red bar labeled "was watching TV" extends from some point before 9:00 and ends at 9:00. - Sentence below the timeline: She was watching TV at 9:00. Now she's asleep. **Timeline b:** - The timeline shows a point labeled "broke down" and another labeled "now". - Above the timeline, a red dashed bar labeled "were driving" extends from some point before "broke down" to the point "broke down". - Sentence below the timeline: We were driving to the store, and our car broke down. **Remember:** 4.
