Welcome to Grade 4 English! In the second semester, we will learn three main areas: vocabulary about daily life, seasons and weather; grammar including present continuous tense and modal verbs; and functions like expressing likes and describing activities.
In Grade 4 vocabulary, we learn words about seasons like spring, summer, autumn and winter. Weather words include sunny, rainy, cloudy and snowy. We also study daily activities, food items, animals, and places we visit.
The Present Continuous Tense describes actions happening now. We form it with am, is, or are plus a verb ending in -ing. For example: I am reading, he is playing, they are swimming. This tense shows ongoing activities.
The modal verb 'can' expresses ability. We use 'can' for positive statements like 'I can swim', and 'can't' for negative statements like 'I can't fly'. For questions, we ask 'Can you dance?' and answer 'Yes, I can' or 'No, I can't'.
Grade 4 students learn important communication functions. They express likes and dislikes, describe daily activities, ask questions for information, talk about weather conditions, give simple directions, and make polite requests. These skills help them communicate effectively in English.
