Welcome! Today we'll learn how to enable Azure Update Manager for Arc-enabled virtual machines in just 5 minutes. Azure Update Manager provides centralized update management for your hybrid infrastructure, allowing you to manage updates across on-premises and multi-cloud environments from a single Azure portal interface.
Let's start with the first three steps. First, open your web browser and navigate to the Azure portal at portal.azure.com. Once you're logged in, use the search bar at the top to search for 'Update Manager'. Click on the Update Manager service from the search results. Finally, in the Update Manager blade, navigate to the Machines section where you'll manage your Arc-enabled virtual machines.
Now we'll add our Arc-enabled VMs to Update Manager. Click the 'Add machine' button in the Machines section. This opens a configuration panel where you'll first select your subscription and resource group where your Arc-enabled VMs are located. Next, filter the machine type by selecting 'Azure Arc' from the dropdown. This will display only your Arc-enabled virtual machines in the list below.
Now select the specific Arc-enabled VMs you want to manage by checking the boxes next to their names. Once you've selected all desired VMs, click the 'Add' button at the bottom. This will open a review panel showing your selected machines and default settings. Finally, click 'Add' again to confirm and initiate the onboarding process. Your Arc-enabled VMs will now begin onboarding to Azure Update Manager, and you'll see a confirmation that the process has started successfully.
Congratulations! You've successfully enabled Azure Update Manager for your Arc-enabled VMs in just 5 minutes. Your virtual machines are now onboarded and ready for centralized update management. The dashboard shows all three VMs with a ready status. You can now schedule update deployments, monitor compliance across your hybrid infrastructure, and configure maintenance windows. Azure Update Manager provides a unified experience for managing updates whether your VMs are in Azure, on-premises, or in other clouds.
