Welcome to the IB Diploma Programme Physics course! This is a comprehensive two-year science programme that provides students with a strong foundation in fundamental physics principles. The course develops deep understanding of the physical world while fostering scientific inquiry skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities essential for future scientific study.
The IBDP Physics course is offered at two distinct levels. Standard Level requires 150 teaching hours and covers core topics plus one optional topic. Higher Level requires 240 hours and includes core topics, two optional topics, and additional higher-level material that provides greater depth and breadth of understanding.
The IBDP Physics course consists of four main components. Core topics cover fundamental physics concepts including mechanics, thermal physics, waves, electricity, and atomic physics. Optional topics allow students to explore specialized areas such as astrophysics or medical physics. The Internal Assessment involves laboratory investigations, while External Assessment includes written examinations that test understanding and application of physics principles.
The IBDP Physics course develops essential skills for scientific inquiry and future study. Students gain experimental skills through hands-on laboratory work, learning to design investigations and analyze data. Critical thinking abilities are fostered through evaluation of scientific evidence. Problem-solving skills are developed by applying physics principles to real-world situations. Communication skills are enhanced through scientific writing and presentation of findings.
The IBDP Physics course provides excellent preparation for future academic and career success. Students develop a strong foundation for university studies in physics, engineering, medicine, and related fields. The course builds scientific literacy and appreciation for the physical universe. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in research, technology, and innovation, equipped with skills to address global challenges through scientific understanding and application.
