Quantum computing is a revolutionary approach to computation that harnesses the principles of quantum mechanics. Unlike classical computers that use bits representing either zero or one, quantum computers use quantum bits, or qubits. These qubits can exist in multiple states simultaneously through a property called superposition. Additionally, qubits can be entangled, meaning the state of one qubit instantly affects another, regardless of distance. These quantum properties potentially allow quantum computers to solve certain complex problems exponentially faster than classical computers.
